J.League announce Championship details

J.League chairman Mitsuru Murai has acknowledged the difficulties in getting fans to embrace this season’s MEIJI YASUDA J1 League format, but is convinced they are building something great.

The official held a press conference on Monday to announce details of the 2015 MEIJI YASUDA J.League Championship, which will be held following the conclusion of the regular season.

Murai and Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance president Akio Negishi were on hand to reveal the tournament’s slogan “Per Angusta Ad Augusta” (“From difficulty to honours”).

“This is a year of trial and error, and as we challenge ourselves we want to help football culture take root in Japan,” Murai commented.

J.League Female Manager Miki Sato and Tomoaki Makino were also present and the Urawa Reds defender added: “It’s the first time trying this format and it’s impossible to predict what will happen, but I’ll surely be the player to watch!”

The league also announced that the semi-final, as well as both legs of the final, will be broadcast on-air over TBS and NHK in Japan.
