Albirex Niigata Name Michael James Fitzgerald Captain for 2026/27 Season

Albirex Niigata have announced that defender Michael James Fitzgerald will serve as captain for the 2026/27 season. The club have also named midfielders Keisuke Kasai, Eiji Shirai and Soya Fujiwara, along with defender Yudai Fujiwara, as vice-captains.
Following the announcement, Fitzgerald commented:
"Becoming captain will not fundamentally change the way I approach things, but I am prepared to speak up when necessary to help the team continue to grow. If we want to achieve the highest standards as a team, it starts with demanding more of myself, while also creating an environment where everyone pushes each other to improve. By maintaining close communication with the coaching staff, I want to help build an even stronger and more united 'ONE TEAM' and continue driving the team's growth."
