Yokohama FC Hit Five in Rout of Niigata! Omiya Stay Top Despite Draw [Summary: MEIJI YASUDA J2 Matchweek 5]

Five Matchweek 5 fixtures in the MEIJI YASUDA J2 LEAGUE were played on 6 September.

Omiya created chances away to Akita but lacked a cutting edge as the match ended goalless. Nevertheless, they remain unbeaten this season and stay top of the table.

Yokohama FC produced a five-goal rout at home to Niigata. Kaili Shimbo opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Toma Murata doubled their advantage in the 52nd. Kyo Hosoi added a third in the 63rd minute and Katsuya Iwatake struck four minutes later before Adailton completed the scoring in the 90th minute to seal a 5-0 victory. Yokohama FC claimed their first win in three matches, taking their tally to 10 points and moving up to second.

Tochigi City cruised to a 4-1 away victory over Sapporo, with Yuta Koike and Kazuki Nishiya both scoring twice. The win lifted Tochigi City to fifth, while Sapporo suffered their fourth straight defeat.

Toyama held on to the lead given to them by Keijiro Ogawa's 22nd-minute goal to beat Iwata 1-0. Oita, meanwhile, came from behind to draw 1-1 with Imabari as Pereira equalised in the 85th minute.
