Tochigi SC have announced that they have terminated the contract of manager Atsushi Yoneyama, effective 11 October.
Yoneyama took charge this year and had overseen a record of two wins, four draws and four defeats in the MEIJI YASUDA J3 LEAGUE as of the end of Matchweek 10.
Yoneyama commented through the club:
“I will be leaving my role as manager of Tochigi SC. I would like to sincerely thank our fans and supporters, sponsors and everyone in our hometown who has supported the club. As manager, it was my responsibility to lead the team to victories and achieve the goals set by the club, and I fully accept that I was unable to fulfil that responsibility.
“Whatever the circumstances, I always focused on doing everything I could to help Tochigi SC win and worked every day alongside the players and staff. I’m deeply frustrated and sorry that I was unable to deliver the results everyone expected. I have nothing but gratitude for the players and staff who fought alongside me, and for the fans and supporters who continued to believe in and support the team through every situation. I sincerely wish Tochigi SC continued success and all the best to the players going forward. My time here was short, but I’m truly grateful for everything.”
Tochigi SC also announced that head coach Yoshimi Hamasaki has taken interim charge of the team from 12 October. Hamasaki is currently undergoing the necessary licence review and registration procedures and is expected to complete them in time to be on the bench as manager for the next match.
Hamasaki commented through the club:
“I feel a great sense of responsibility for not having been able to support the manager and help move the team forward. To improve our current situation, everyone at the club — players and staff alike — will keep moving ‘forward, forward, forward’ together. We will carry the voices and support of our fans with us as we fight, and we ask for your continued backing.”
