2026/27 MEIJI YASUDA J.League Sets New Matchweek Attendance Record in Opening Round: J1 Draws Over 300,000 Fans, with More Than 470,000 Across All Three Divisions
The opening round of the 2026/27 MEIJI YASUDA J.League season (J1, J2 and J3 Matchweek 1, held from 7 to 9 August) drew a total attendance of 476,112, setting a new record for the highest attendance in a single matchweek across all three divisions.
The MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE also set a new single-matchweek attendance record, with 304,292 fans attending the 10 matches in Matchweek 1. In addition, J1, J2 and J3 each set new attendance records for an opening matchweek.
The MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE also saw high stadium occupancy across many venues, with the 10 Matchweek 1 fixtures recording an overall occupancy rate of 85.9%, the highest ever for a single matchweek.
The previous single-matchweek attendance records were 303,614 for J1 in Matchweek 14 of the 2025 season and 470,204 across all three divisions in Matchweek 38 of the 2024 season. The previous record for the highest single-matchweek occupancy rate in J1 was 84.6%, set in Matchweek 38 of the 2025 season.
