Cerezo Osaka have announced that defender Hinata Kawai of Meiji University will join the club for the 2026/27 season in January 2027.
Kawai is from Osaka Prefecture and previously played in the Cerezo Osaka academy. The club described him as a defender who leads the back line with his strength in one-on-one situations and sharp reading of the game. Named MVP of the Denso Cup regional competition, he primarily plays at centre-back but can also operate at full-back or defensive midfield.
Following the announcement, Kawai commented:
“I’m absolutely delighted to have the chance to wear the Sakura shirt again. I first joined Cerezo Osaka’s Elite Class when I was in fifth grade, and over the eight years that followed, this club helped me grow both as a footballer and as a person. Now that I have the opportunity to return as a player, I’m determined to give everything I have to repay the club and contribute to its success on the pitch. I’m deeply grateful to my family, friends, teammates and coaches who have always supported me, to everyone who has helped me along the way, and to Meiji University for giving me so many valuable experiences in such a wonderful environment. To everyone who has supported me since my academy days, and to everyone at Hanasaka Club, I’m looking forward to fighting alongside you again. I’m home!”
