FC Tokyo on Friday announced a one-year loan of goalkeeper Shuichi Gonda to Austrian third division side SV Horn.
Gonda, a Japan international who participated in the 2012 London Olympics, was initially part of the capital club’s 2015 MEIJI YASUDA J1 League title challenge.
However, the 26-year-old was diagnosed with Overtraining Syndrome in the middle of the campaign and made what turned out to be his final appearance for Tokyo in July.
“In the 10th year of my professional career, I decided to challenge myself and make this move [to Europe],” Gonda explained.
The custodian had made over 200 appearances in all competitions for his hometown club since rising to the first team from the youth ranks in 2007.
In anticipation of Gonda’s impending move, Tokyo proceeded to snap up Shonan Bellmare keeper Yota Akimoto to take up place between the posts.
