Kashima Antlers star Gaku Shibasaki underwent surgery following acute appendicitis, the club announced on Friday.
The Japan international received care under the supervision of the team doctor on February 9 and is expected to require up to four weeks to recover.
Shibasaki, who scored five goals last season, could miss the opening rounds of the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J1 League’s first stage.
