Vissel Kobe on Thursday announced Shinji Yamaguchi has damaged his medial cruciate ligament.
The defender will now require roughly eight weeks to recover.
Yamaguchi suffered the knock in a training match on February 29.
The 19-year-old made one appearance for Vissel in 2015, his debut season.
