Ten Matchweek 4 fixtures in the MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE were played on 29 August, with Kashiwa and Kashima both making it four wins from four to start the season.
 
Kashiwa travelled to face Shimizu and took the lead in the 71st minute through substitute Yusuke Segawa, who scored for the third straight match. His goal proved to be the winner as Kashiwa secured a 1-0 victory. Kashima, meanwhile, defeated Tokyo V 2-0 thanks to a brace from Leo Ceara.
 
Mito took the lead against Machida in the 28th minute through Arata Watanabe but conceded an equaliser five minutes later as the match ended 1-1. Gamba Osaka and Hiroshima played out a goalless draw, with neither side able to find a breakthrough.
 
FC Tokyo cruised to a 3-0 away victory over Nagasaki, with Motoki Nagakura among the scorers. Urawa fell behind at home to Yokohama FM in the 38th minute but equalised two minutes later through Matheus Savio. After going behind again in the 57th minute, Kenta Nemoto drew them level in the 64th before Harumi Minamino struck the winner seven minutes later to seal a 3-2 victory and Urawa’s first win of the season.
 
Kawasaki Frontale cruised to a 4-2 home victory over Chiba, with Derik Lacerda among the scorers. Nagoya defeated Okayama 2-1 thanks to goals from Sho Inagaki and Katsuhiro Nakayama.
 
Kyoto earned a 2-1 victory over Fukuoka with goals from Rafael Elias and Haruki Arai. Kobe held on to the lead given to them by Ren Komatsu’s 71st-minute goal to secure a 1-0 win over Cerezo Osaka.
