Ogawa Scores Twice off Bench as Machida Go Top! Watanabe Hits Four as Mito Win Ibaraki Derby [Summary: MEIJI YASUDA J1 Matchweek 5]

All 10 Matchweek 5 fixtures in the MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE were played on 2 September, with Machida moving top of the table after beating Kawasaki Frontale.
 
Machida fell behind at home to Kawasaki Frontale but equalised in the 75th minute through substitute Koki Ogawa. Ogawa struck again in the 81st minute to complete a 2-1 comeback victory. Machida remain unbeaten this season and move top of the table with 13 points.
 
Kashiwa, who had led the table going into the matchweek, travelled to face Cerezo Osaka. Solomon Sakuragawa opened the scoring for Cerezo in the 20th minute before striking again in the 68th minute to seal a 2-0 victory and hand Kashiwa their first defeat of the season.
 
In the Ibaraki derby between Mito and Kashima, Arata Watanabe gave Mito the lead from the penalty spot in the eighth minute before doubling their advantage in the 21st. Watanabe completed his hat-trick in the 48th minute and, after Kashima pulled one back, struck again in the 55th minute to take his tally to four. Kashima later added a second, but Mito held on for a 4-2 victory to win the first Ibaraki derby played in J1. The defeat was Kashima's first of the season.
 
Hiroshima broke the deadlock at home to Nagoya through Mutsuki Kato in the 71st minute after a goalless first half. Akito Suzuki doubled their advantage in the 80th minute before Sebastien Haller added a third in the 90+1st minute to complete a comfortable 3-0 victory. Kobe, meanwhile, defeated Tokyo V 2-0 thanks to goals from Issei Takahashi and Katsuya Nagato.
 
Yokohama FM came from behind to draw 1-1 with Kyoto, with Kaina Tanimura equalising in the 73rd minute. Shimizu also fought back to earn a 1-1 draw with FC Tokyo as Kosuke Kinoshita scored his first goal since joining the club in the 53rd minute.
 
Urawa took an early lead away to Fukuoka through Matheus Savio in the seventh minute but conceded twice to fall behind. Kotaro Hayashi equalised in the 83rd minute before Ado Onaiwu struck the winner two minutes later to complete a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory.
 
Nagasaki established a two-goal lead through Kenshin Yasuda and Matheus Jesus but conceded twice late on as Gamba Osaka fought back to earn a 2-2 draw. Okayama, meanwhile, edged Chiba 2-1 after Yuta Kamiya struck a dramatic winner in the 90+4th minute with the scores level at 1-1. Chiba have now lost all five of their opening matches.
